Afghanistan Tour Of Sri Lanka 2024 : Sri Lanka will be Afghanistan’s sixth Test cricket opponent when the two teams play each other in the longest format of the game for the first time. Afghanistan hadn’t participated in a Test match in more than two years when they last played in June of last year. at their most recent match, they lost to Bangladesh at Mirpur by a total of 546 runs.

In July 2023, Sri Lanka played their last Test match at home against Pakistan. In the two-match series, they lost both Test matches by significant margins. As of right now, they are the only team in the 2023–25 World Test Championship cycle without a point. They are now ranked last on the standings. The WTC will not include the test match vs Afghanistan.

The teams for both sides have not been revealed, nor have many other specifics about the series other than the location (Sinhalese Sports Club Ground in Colombo). Dhananjaya de Silva will be the next captain of Sri Lanka.

Rashid Khan had back surgery, which caused him to miss Afghanistan’s most recent T20I series against India. He was also forced to miss the Big Bash and SA20. It is uncertain whether he will be ready for the Test match.

There will be three ODIs and three T20Is after the Test match, which is the opening leg of an all-format series between the two teams. February 21 in Dambulla will be the last Twenty20 International of the trip.

In June 2023, Afghanistan played their last Test match, losing to Bangladesh handily. Their ninth Test match will be this one. Afghanistan has only won one of the seven Test matches they have played thus far.

With Dhananjaya de Silva as their new captain and Kusal Mendis as his deputy, Sri Lanka begins their Test campaign. The hosts are playing at the exact same location where they lost to Pakistan by an innings and 222 runs in their last Test match.

Following the Test match, the two teams will take off in an ODI series starting on February 9 and the first T20 international fixture on February 17.
