Hetmyer Punished by BCCI for Smashing Stumps in IPL Qualifier 2

In the IPL 2024 Qualifier 2 match at Chennai’s Chidambaram Stadium on Friday, Sunrisers Hyderabad left-arm spinner Abhishek Sharma dismissed Rajasthan Royals batsman Shimron Hetmyer for smashing the wickets. The BCCI then fined Hetmyer. In line with the IPL Code of Conduct, Hetmyer was found guilty of a Level 1 offense. Upon his admission of guilt, he was penalized ten percent of his match costs.

When Shimron Hetmyer of the Rajasthan Royals violated the IPL Code of Conduct during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 Qualifier 2 match against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on May 24, he was fined ten percent of his match earnings, according to the BCCI.

Javagal Srinath, a former Indian pacer who officiated the second qualifier, handed down the punishment. “According to IPL Code of Conduct Article 2.2, Hetmyer committed a Level 1 offense. He acknowledged the offense and consented to the Match Referee’s punishment. The judgment made by the Match Referee is final and enforceable for Level 1 violations of the Code of Conduct, according to BCCI.

BCCI Action over Hetmyer’s Action

As usual, BCCI did not go into specifics about the event that caused the breach, although it was most likely brought about by Hetmyer’s disapproval following his dismissal. That was in the fourteenth over of RR’s chase. Abhishek Sharma and Shahbaz Ahmed, the left-arm spinners for the SRH, were limiting the RR hitters. The champion’s last hope in the first edition was Hetmyer.

In the fourth ball of the over, Abhishek altered his length and delivered it flat. Fizzling off the pitch was the ball. Hetmyer was unable to determine how fast the ball was moving. The batsman from the West Indies dropped his bat far too late. His torturous stay in the middle came to an end as the ball cannoned into his off stump.

Hetmyer was inconsolable. After scoring four runs off ten balls, he attempted to smash the wickets with his bat before making the arduous journey back to the pavilion.

That wicket decided the game for RR. Even with a valiant attempt by Dhruv Jurel, they were defeated by 36 runs, and SRH proceeded to the final.
