Ranji Trophy 2024 : Cricketer Sumit Sharma of Odisha gets banned by BCCI for age fraud –

Ranji Trophy 2024 : Indian cricket is once more being investigated for age fraud. According to reports, Odisha cricket player Sumit Sharma has been barred from participating in any domestic cricket tournaments for the next two years by the Board Of Control For Cricket In India (BCCI). Sharma is allegedly facing action from the BCCI disciplinary committee for presenting forged documents of several ages. Sharma participated in the Ranji Trophy 2023–24 as a member of the Odisha cricket team.

Sharma, an all-around player by profession, was found guilty of fabricating many certifications of age. He presented the Odisha cricket team with an age certificate that was different from the one he had filed for the 2015–16 campaign. Sharma travelled to Vadodara on Friday to play Baroda in Odisha’s opening match. Beginning on Friday, January 5, 2024, will be the next Ranji Trophy season.

Following Sumit Sharma’s age deception, Tarini Sa was selected by the Odisha cricket selection committee to replace him in the team that is going to Vadodara to play Baroda at the Moti Bagh Stadium.

Due to his various age certificates, BCCI has prohibited Odisha Senior Men’s Team player Sumit Sharma from participating in BCCI Domestic Tournaments for a period of two years. In a news release, OCA secretary Sanjay Behera stated, “The certificates he produced when he played at the junior level in the year 2015–16 do not match with the ones he produced for the current season.”

The BCCI has banned players for age-fraud in its domestic circuit and takes a strong action against such cases. The Board has been forced to take strong action in this respect on several occasions in the past.
