After defeating Ireland this week, the Rohit Sharma-led side will be looking to almost lock up a spot in the Super 8 round when they take on Pakistan in New York for their second World Cup match.
Since Rohit hurt his hand during the match against Ireland, it is unclear if the captain of India would participate in the huge match against Pakistan. His knock on Wednesday was cut short when pacer Josh Little delivered a punch to his upper arm. After a few overs, he exited the field due to injury, having amassed an undefeated 52 off 37. In the post-match press conference, he disclosed the nature of the injury, stating, “It was a sore arm.”

Hardik Pandya to Take the Lead if Rohit Sharma Misses
According to RevSportz’s report on the training session, Rohit had yet another injury scare on Friday as India was getting ready for the match against Pakistan in New York. He was struck in the thumb. In the nets, the seasoned opener was facing off against Sri Lankan throwdown expert Nuwan when the ball bounced strangely and struck him in the palm. After receiving medical attention right away, he quickly went back to hitting from the opposite side of the practice net, although he only stayed for a short while before heading out.
Although the BCCI has not yet provided an official statement about Rohit’s injury, if he is sidelined, India’s vice captain, Hardik Pandya, would captain the team against Pakistan; Yashasvi Jaiswal will most likely take over as opener.
The matchup with Pakistan will be essential in figuring out who will make the Super 8 out of Group A in the T20 World Cup. USA appears to be the favorite to go to the next round after defeating Pakistan and Canada.
