Shreyas Iyer, Ishan Kishan face BCCI Action

When they reveal the new list, Indian cricket players Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer may not receive central contracts from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

Due to their unwillingness to participate in the Ranji Trophy 2024 despite explicit orders from the Indian cricket body, Kishan and Shreyas have come under scrutiny.

Ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL), they say Kishan is honing his technique, while officials recently cut Shreyas from the Test squad due to subpar play. Reported information on his fitness varies.

Shreyas Iyer, Ishan Kishan Lose BCCI Contract

When the BCCI releases the new list, Kishan and Shreyas could not have a central contract, according to a story in The Times of India.

The selectors, led by Ajit Agarkar, has almost finalised the list of centrally contracted players for the 2023-24 season too, which the BCCI will announce soon. Kishan and Iyer are likely to be excluded from that list, as both haven’t been playing domestic cricket despite the BCCI’s diktat to do so,” a source was quoted as saying by the paper.

“Patel’s email to the BCCI was written after the second Test against England. Since then, a back problem has bothered Iyer. Iyer was one of India’s top-performing batsmen in the ODI World Cup in India last year. He won’t lose the contract just because he missed the odd Ranji match,” the source was quoted as saying by TOI.

But the newspaper also cited an individual close to Shreyas who said that the batsman’s back problem prevented him from playing in the previous three Test matches against England.

Due to back spasms, the right-handed batsman had notified the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) that he was unable for selection.

In reference to the 2022–2023 central contracts, Kishan earned ₹1 crore and Shreyas earned ₹3 crore, respectively, and was in the C category.

Curious Cases of Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer

Earlier this year, Ishan travelled to South Africa for a two-match Test series as a member of the Indian side. But he withdrew for private reasons, and he hasn’t played cricket since. In November 2023, he played his last T20I match for India in Guwahati against Australia.

Despite having little run support, Shreyas played in the first two Test matches against England. Due to rumours of injury concerns, the selectors did not select him for the next three Test matches. When revealing the team for the last three Tests, the BCCI, however, made no mention of his health.
