Modern Warfare 3 and The Walking Dead Crossover

Recent sources suggest that Rick Grimes from The Walking Dead may soon be joining Call of Duty : Modern Warfare 3 as an Operator. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 has garnered positive reviews from players worldwide, even if the single-player campaign has been criticised. In fact, players have been known to spend more time in Modern Warfare 3 than they have in the previous three reboot titles.

Activision often conducts crossovers featuring characters from multiple series to keep gamers involved in the next release and the free-to-play battle royale Warzone. A Diablo 4 themed crossover with Call of Duty: Warzone allowed players to claim an in-game weapon that could be used across both titles in the most recent Halloween event. Activision appears to be ready to host the next franchise in the long-running franchise.

According to a tweet by frequent Call of Duty data miner ModenasHD, references to Rick Grimes and Michonne from The Walking Dead have been discovered within the Modern Warfare 3 code. Although no official release date has been set, the characters are expected to be accessible as operators in early 2024 to tie with The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live TV programme.

Although the story has yet to be confirmed, it isn’t the first time information about a Call of Duty crossover has leaked before of a complete release. Earlier this year, fans learned that another comic book character, Spawn, will feature in Season 5 of the shooter. This leak proved correct, as Spawn was added as an operator to Modern Warfare 2 and Warzones in September 2023.

The possibility of a crossover comes at a time when both series’ games have garnered bad reviews. Modern Warfare 3 received mixed reviews, but it managed to outperform the newest Walking Dead offering. Fans have turned to social media to criticise practically every element of The Walking Dead: Destinies, including the visual quality and a hurried plot.

With a new Walking Dead spin-off launching in February 2024, a crossover between the two concepts does appear to make sense. It’s unclear whether Activision will include Rick and Michonne in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, but with the TV series premiering in a few months, fans won’t have to wait long for an official confirmation.
