Mitchell Marsh LSG Biography

Mitchell Marsh is an Australian international cricketer who was born on 20 October 1991 in Attadale, Western Australia. He is an all-rounder with excellent right-hand batting and right-arm medium bowling. He represents the Australian team in all 3 formats (T20I, ODI, Test) and is also the captain of the Australian T20I team.

Mitchell Marsh was one of the player in the Australian teams that won the 2015 ODI World Cup, 2021 T20 World Cup, and 2023 ODI World Cup. In the Big Bash League, Marsh plays for the Perth Scorchers, and in IPL 2025, Marsh plays for the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) franchise.

Early Life and Background

Mitchell Marsh’s father, Geoff Marsh, was a former Australian Test opener and World Cup-winning coach. His brother Shaun Marsh is also a former cricket player, and where both played for the Australian National Side. His Sister, Melissa Marsh, was a former Professional basketball player.

 Mitchell Marsh was born and brought up in Perth, Western Australia, where he studied at Wesley College, Perth. Apart from Cricket, Marsh also excelled in Australian Rules football, where he represented the Western Australian football team in the  2008 AFL Under-18 Championship.

Domestic Career

Mitchell Marsh made his initial debut in Domestic Cricket at the age of 17 in February 2009 for Western Australia in the Ford Ranger Cup at Bunbury. Then, in the 2010 ICC Under-19 World Cup, he captained the Australia U-19 team and led the team to victory. In that tournament, Marsh had scored 201 runs, including a crucial 97 in the semi-final against Sri Lanka.

In July 2014, Marsh scored 211 runs for Australia A against India A batting at No. 7, which was his first double century.

IPL Journey (2010–2025)

  • 2010: Signed for the Deccan Chargers, it was Marsh’s debut season in the IPL.
  • 2011-2013: He was bought by the Pune Warriors India, and the team was coached by his father, Geoff Marsh. 
  • 2014-2015: He was not picked in the 2014-2015 IPL auction, and he focused on International and Domestic Cricket. 
  • 2016-17: He joined the new franchise Rising Pune Supergiants, where he contributed as a fast bowling all-rounder and also played Limited matches due to injury. 
  • 2018-19: Again went unsold in the 2018-19 IPL auction due to injuries and fitness issues. 
  • 2020: He was bought by the Sunrisers Hyderabad, but he played just one match and suffered from an ankle injury in the first game, and was ruled out for the rest of the season. 
  • 2021: Sunrisers Hyderabad retained him, but due to Bio-Bubble fatigue during COVID-19, they withdrew him. 
  • 2022: In the 2022 Mega auction in Delhi Capitals bought Marsh, and in this season, he performed well with his performance as a middle-order batter and as a part-time bowler.
  • 2023: Continued to play with Delhi Capitals, played regularly, and contributed with both ball and bat. 
  • 2024: Delhi Capitals retained Marsh, and he played as a top-order aggressive batsman and as an occasional bowler.
  • 2025: Still a part of Delhi Capitals, He is playing as a senior member in the DC team and playing the good knocks and also shining as one of the highest run scorer in this Season.

International Career

Mitchell Marsh made his initial debut in T20I against South Africa on 16 October 2011, and two days later, on 19 October 2011, he made his ODI debut against the same South Africa.  He was part of the Australian squad that won the 2015 ODI World Cup, the 2021 T20 World Cup, and the 2023 ODI World Cup.

In the 2015 World Cup, he contributed a 5-wicket haul against England in the group stage, showcasing his value as a seam-bowling all-rounder.

In the 2021 T20I World Cup, he scored 77 runs in the finals against New Zealand and also won Player of the Match in the final, and helped Australia win their first-ever T20 World Cup.

Marsh played a Crucial role in Australia’s crucial victory in the 2023 ODI World Cup. He scored a magnificent 177 against Bangladesh, the highest score by an Australian in World Cup history.

Later in 2023, Marsh was appointed as the captain of the Australian T20I team and led the team to wins against South Africa and the West Indies. Therefore, Marsh is one of the promising all-rounder and is capable of contributing with both bat and ball.
