F1 Esports Champion Lucas Blakeley Leaves McLaren Shadow

Lucas Blakeley Leaves McLaren

The Scottish sim racing star Lucas Blakeley, who won the F1 Esports Series World Championship in 2022, has revealed that he will be leaving McLaren Shadow. This marks the end of his remarkable three-year journey with the team. He announced his decision on May 27, revealing how thankful he was for being able to represent a team he idolised as a child. Blakeley has gained the attention of the sim racing community because of his constant detailing, accuracy, and fierce dedication. His departure has shocked the sim racing community.

Championship Career with McLaren Shadow

Blakeley was initially playing for the Aston Martin Cognizant Esports Team. Later, he joined the Team McLaren Shadow Gaming in 2022. In his debut season with Team McLaren, Blakeley won both the Drivers’ and Teams’ Championships, solidifying his place among the elite in sim racing.

His major achievement came at the 2022 F1 Esports Series finals held at Abu Dhabi, where a fourth-place finish was sufficient to win the championship, with several other competitors like Frederik Rasmussen.

McLaren Shadow praised his effort and referred to his journey with them as “a remarkable chapter” in their esports history.

During his journey with McLaren, Blakeley made a valuable contribution to the various level races such as Spa-Francorchamps, Silverstone, etc. In most of the races, Blakeley managed to achieve several podium finishes. In his 2025 campaign, he finished in 15th place in the F1 Sim Racing World Championships. His legacy as a world champion remains undisputed in the racing community.

Blakeley’s Next Move

Although Blakeley has not disclosed any information about his further steps, he still interacts with his fans through livestreams and content on Twitch, where he has over 39,000 followers. This indicates that he will not take a break from sim racing. This also hints at the possibility of joining another team, or it could mean additional involvement in motorsports.

Blakeley has stepped outside the virtual tracks in recent years, where he participated in the GB4 Championship in 2023. This suggested that he was aiming to broaden his presence in both esports and traditional motorsports.
