Rishabh Pant is an Indian international cricketer known for his explosive batting and fearless wicketkeeping. He represents India in all three formats, where he plays as a left-handed wicketkeeper batter. Currently, Pant serves as a vice-captain of the Indian Test team and captain of the Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Pant made a remarkable comeback in cricket after he met with a deadly car accident in 2022. He played a key role in India’s victories in the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup and 2025 Champions Trophy. Pant is the first Indian wicketkeeper to score Test centuries in England and Australia.

Early Life

Rishabh Rajendra Pant was born on 4 October 1997 in Roorkee, Uttarakhand. At a young age, he started practising cricket. He travelled from Uttarakhand to Delhi on every weekend with his mother to get training under Tarak Sinha at the Sonnet Cricket Academy. Due to financial challenges, Pant and his mother stayed in a Gurdwara in Moti Bagh during his training days.

Under his coach’s guidance, he started working to improve his skills at batting. His breakthrough performance came in the initial stage of a U-19 match for Delhi vs Assam, where he scored 150 in the second innings.

Domestic Career

Rishabh Pant made his first-class debut for Delhi on 22 October 2015 in the Ranji Trophy. One month later, in November 2015, he made his List A debut in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. His impressive performance in a domestic format came up in the 2016-17 Ranji Trophy, where he scored 308 runs in an innings against Maharashtra. Therefore, he became the third-youngest Indian to score a triple century in first-class cricket.

Later in 2017, he captained Delhi in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. On 14 January 2018, Pant scored 100 off just 32 balls in the Zonal T20 League against Himachal Pradesh. This was the second-fastest century in T20 cricket globally at that time.

IPL Career

Rishabh Pant made his IPL debut in 2016 by playing for the Delhi Daredevils. He was bought by the Delhi Daredevils for Rs 1.9 crore. In his debut season, he scored 198 runs in 10 matches. His breakthrough performance came in IPL 2018, where he scored 684 runs in 14 matches, including 5 fifties and 1 century. In that season, he scored his highest IPL score of 128 against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Rishab was a part of the Delhi Daredevils from 2016 to 2024.

In 2021, he was appointed as the captain of the Delhi Capitals. Later, in IPL 2023, he missed the season due to recovery from a car accident in December 2022. In 2024, he made a comeback after injury, where he scored 446 runs in 14 matches, including 3 fifties.

Pant was released by the DC ahead of the 2025 auction. In the IPL 2025 mega auction, he was bought by the LSG for Rs 27 crore, and he became the most expensive player in IPL history. He was appointed as the captain of the Lucknow Super Giants for the 2025 season.

International Career

Rishabh Pant made his T20I debut on 1 February 2017 against England in Bengaluru. He became the youngest Indian to debut in T20Is at the age of 19 years and 120 days. Pant has represented India in 76 T20I matches and scored 1209 runs with a strike rate of 127.4. Later, he was dropped from the T20I squad after 2022 due to injury.

On 18 August 2018, Pant made his Test debut against England at Nottingham. Panyth has represented India in 43 test matches and scored 2948 runs. He scored his first Test century (114) against England at The Oval in 2018. Rishabh Pant was regarded as India’s best overseas-performing wicketkeeper-batsman in the Test format.

Panth made his ODI debut on 21 October 2018 against the West Indies at Guwahati. He has represented India in 31 ODI matches and scored 871 runs with a strike rate of 106.22. His impressive performance came up in 2022, where he scored an unbeaten 125 against England.

Therefore, Rishabh Pant is the first Indian wicketkeeper to score Test centuries in England, Australia, and South Africa.
