India Holds Onto Second Position In WTC Rankings After Ranchi Win

India secured a commanding 3-1 lead in the five-match series with a convincing five-wicket victory against England in the fourth Test at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi. With 192 to win in the fourth innings, the Rohit Sharma led team had 40/0 going into Day 4, but they were in a tight spot at 120/5 in the second session.
An undefeated 72-run stand, Shubman Gill (52* off 124) and Dhruv Jurel (39* off 77) helped their side get out of a tight position and cross the finish line. With five victories from eight matches and a points percentage of 64.58%, India maintained their second-place ranking in the World Test Championship (WTC) points standings after their victory.

On the other hand, England maintained their eighth-place ranking with three victories from nine games and a 19.44 points percentage. New Zealand, the WTC’s debut winners, are comfortably atop the standings with three victories from four games and a 75% point total.

Notably, India advanced to the WTC finals in the first two cycles, but lost to Australia and New Zealand in the respective summit matches and was unable to win the trophy. The team captained by Rohit Sharma will be keen to break their final jinx and make it to the finals for the third time in a row.
Upcoming Home Series For India
The two-time runners-up will try to advance to the top of the points table by winning the final Test match against England. India will play two home series against Bangladesh and New Zealand following the England series. In November 2024, they will play Australia in a much-anticipated five-match away series to round off their current cycle.
The fourth and fifth Test matches, which will start on Thursday, March 07 at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala, will be separated by a nine-day break for both India and England. India will be merciless to make it 4-1, while England will want to close the series on a good note by winning to make the score 2-3.
