Azam was dismissed for a duck for the second time in a row amid criticism of his performance in the recently finished series against England and his inclusion in the T20 World Cup team. He got a golden duck against the USA after being removed by left-arm spinner Nosthush Kenjige following a five-ball duck against England.

Azam, 25, reacted by racing towards the fan and giving him a death gaze after he was heckled by onlookers in Dallas over his ejection as he made his way back to the pavilion. Additionally, the camera captures him mouthing a few words likely to keep them to himself—before making his way to the changing area.

In the final delivery of the 13th over of Pakistan’s innings, Azam was dismissed, immediately following Kenjige’s end of a fierce 72-run partnership between skipper Babar Azam and Shadab Khan. Pakistan recovered from 26 for three in the fourth over to 98 for four in 12.4 overs thanks to the duo. However, the 2009 champions’ downfall continued when Shadab was removed, as they were reduced to just 159 for seven.

The home team responded by getting off to a strong start and maintaining it even after Steven Taylor was removed in the sixth over. After Pakistan seemed like they could rally, Captain Monank Patel scorched a fifty and Andries Gous and Aaron Jones remained composed to tie the score in the chase.
Mohammed Amir struggled in the Super Over, bowling three wides as Pakistan gave away seven extras as the USA set a goal of 13. The host team’s unflappable Saurabh Netravalkar next bowled a brilliant over, giving up only 13 runs for a wicket, and the USA won their second consecutive World Cup match after defeating Canada earlier.
