Rahul Dravid Rejects BCCI’s Extra ₹2.5 Crore Bonus, Stresses Team Equality

It was Rahul Dravid again. In keeping with his belief that all members of his support staff should receive an equal portion of prize bonuses, the departing head coach declined to accept the extra ₹2.5 crore that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) was giving him, putting him on par with players from India’s T20 World Cup-winning squad.
“Rahul demanded the same bonus money, amounting to ₹2.5 crore, as did his other support staff members, who included Vikram Rathore, T Dilip, and Paras Mhambrey, the bowling coach. We honor his feelings, according to a BCCI source.
The board came up with a distribution mechanism that called for Dravid and the 15 players in India’s winning squad to split the ₹125 crore prize money equally. The selectors and the squad’s traveling members will receive ₹1 crore apiece, while the support workers will receive ₹2.5 crore each.

When Dravid was in charge of India’s 2018 U-19 World Cup winning squad, he had said something similar. Dravid had rejected the formula when it was agreed that, in recognition of his status, he would receive ₹50 lakh, while the other members of the support staff would receive ₹20 lakh apiece and the players ₹30 lakh each. Dravid wished for equitable awards from the BCCI for everybody.
As a result, a new list of financial prizes (₹25 lakhs) was created for each member of the coaching team, including Dravid. The previous coach grew close to the players because of traits like these and the stability in selection that Dravid brought about throughout his tenure.
Despite all of his playing achievements, Dravid was never able to win a World Cup until he was the head coach of India’s T20 World Cup-winning squad. Virat Kohli, the captain, and captain Rohit Sharma led the victory celebrations, bringing Dravid to the forefront. After India lost the ODI World Cup finals the previous year, Rohit was the one who persuaded Dravid to continue coaching for the T20 World Cup.
“You are a true legend in this sport, but you came as our coach and left all of your honors and accomplishments behind, allowing us all to feel at ease enough to talk to you about anything,” Rohit wrote on Tuesday in reference to Dravid.
