A new effort by the Global Esports Federation (GEF) intends to unite the gaming community for social benefit.

The GEF and a number of partners will launch a number of programs and activities under the Global Social Impact Initiative (GSII). These initiatives are meant to facilitate “social impact” while “contributing to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals,” according to a statement.

The Global Impact Partners of the Global Environment Fund (GEF) have pledged to assist the GSII with multimillion-dollar pledges spread over several years until 2030. Partners include, among others, the proprietors of Rogue and the parent business of the Carolina Royal Ravens, ReKT Global, Infinite Reality, and PC hardware maker Intel.

According to a statement, the GSII will concentrate its efforts on a number of important sectors, such as young employment, universal connection, equality, diversity and inclusion, education, digital transformation, and equity and environmental sustainability. It plans to do this by “a series of targeted initiatives and calls-to-action” and to “enact meaningful change” in its areas of emphasis by utilizing the influence of its partners.

At the “Change the Game” meeting organized by UNESCO as a part of the current Summer Olympics in Paris, France, the project was unveiled.

“The launch of the Global Social Impact Initiative is a pivotal moment for the Global Esports Federation and the entire #worldconnected community,” said Thanos Karagrounas, Chief Impact Officer at the GEF, about the new project.
