The United Arab Emirates (UAE) will now host the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, which was previously slated to take place in Bangladesh, according to an announcement made by the International Cricket Council (ICC). One of the most anticipated events on the women’s cricket calendar, the tournament will be held in two of the UAE’s best grounds, Dubai and Sharjah, from October 3 to October 20, 2024.

Travel advisories from a number of participating countries expressed worries about holding the tournament in Bangladesh, which prompted the decision to move the event. The ICC determined that shifting the event to the United Arab Emirates was the most practical alternative, despite the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s (BCB) best attempts to investigate all options. The event’s hosting rights will still belong to the BCB, though.

Disappointment for BCB

“We know the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) would have staged a memorable event, so it is a shame that we are not hosting the Women’s T20 World Cup in Bangladesh,” ICC Chief Executive Geoff Allardice stated in an official statement. “I would want to thank the BCB team for looking into every possibility to try to make it possible for the event to be staged in Bangladesh, but that was not possible due to travel advisories from several of the participating teams’ countries. They will still be able to host, though. In the near future, we want to bring an ICC world event to Bangladesh.

Allardice also thanked Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka for their offers of assistance, as well as the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) for taking over as hosts on behalf of the BCB. “We anticipate witnessing international ICC events in both of those nations in 2026,” he continued.
