Neeraj Chopra Lausanne Diamond League: Everything You need to know
2 min readNeeraj Chopra, the silver medallist from the Paris Olympics, has announced he would compete in the Lausanne Diamond League competition on Thursday. Due to a groin injury, Neeraj, who set a season record with a throw of 89.45 meters in Paris, has only participated in one Diamond League tournament this year, in Doha.
On August 22, 2024, the eleventh Diamond League meeting of 2024 will be held at Lausanne, Switzerland’s Stade Olympique de la Pontaise. Several Olympic gold medallists from Paris 2024 will compete in this important track and field event, including Neeraj Chopra, who just won a silver medal. Arshad Nadeem, the Olympic gold champion, is not there, hence Neeraj is the clear favorite to win in Switzerland. But five of the top six javelin throwers from the Paris Olympics, including bronze winner Anderson Peters, will give him serious challenge.
Neeraj will also face Julian Weber, the winner of the Paris Diamond League, and Jakub Vadlejch, who defeated him in the Doha Diamond League earlier this year. Neeraj, who is now fourth in the Diamond League rankings, wants to place in the top six in order to guarantee a position in the Diamond League Final, which will take place in Brussels next month. Several Olympic winners will also be competing in Lausanne, including Sweden’s Armand Duplantis, who is hoping to continue his unbeaten run in international events. The medalists for the pole vault from Paris 2024, Sam Kendricks (USA) and Emmanouil Karalis (Greece), will also compete.
