Australia announce squad for women’s T20 World Cup 2024

On Monday, August 26, Australia revealed the women’s T20 World Cup 2024 roster. Australia is aiming for a record fourth consecutive championship triumph in the United Arab Emirates, and Alyssa Healy is ready to lead the squad into her maiden ICC event as captain. Conversely, Tahlia McGrath, an all-rounder, has been selected vice captain.
Tayla Vlaeminck, Phoebe Litchfield, and Sophie Molineux are the three new players that the Australian team has brought in following their winning run in the last tournament in South Africa.

The 25-year-old seamer Vlaeminck has taken 17 wickets at an economy of 5.92 and an average of 19.17 in his 17 T20I appearances. Together with Megan Schutt, Kim Garth, Darcie Brown, and Ellyse Perry, she will support the seam assault. Together with Ash Gardner, Alana King, and Georgia Wareham, left-arm spinner Molineux creates a potent four-pronged spin attack.

The 21-year-old Phoebe Litchfield has amassed 191 runs from 13 games at an average of 31.83 and a strike rate of 161.86 in her brief stint at the bat. Shawn Fleger, the Australian selector, expressed faith in captain Healy and vice captain McGrath to guide their nation at the greatest level.
“We’ve already seen what Alyssa Healy and Tahlia McGrath bring from a leadership perspective, so it’s exciting for them to have this opportunity to lead their country on the biggest stage,” Fleger remarked. “This is the first time Alyssa Healy will be in charge at a World Cup.”

He also felt sorry for Jess Jonassen, a left-arm spinner who has been playing fantastically in the Women’s Premier League and The Hundred recently.
“Jess Jonassen is unfortunate to have missed out once more, but we’re impressed with how she’s recovered, and we’ll keep an eye on her form leading up to the home summer,” he continued.
Australia, meanwhile, is in Group A with Sri Lanka, India, New Zealand, and Pakistan. On October 4, they will begin their campaign against Sri Lanka. Because of the continuous political unrest in Bangladesh, the competition has just been moved from Bangladesh to the United Arab Emirates. With six championships to their name, Australia is the most successful team in the Women’s T20 World Cup.
