5 min read
The action of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 has just ended. For the next international tour of team India against England, fans will have to wait till June. But no need to worry as the season of TATA Indian Premier League 2025 is about to kick off. This new season of IPL 2025 will start on March 22 and will run until May 25 this year. For this new season, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has introduced a fresh set of new rules and regulations that they expect everyone to follow to maintain the high standards of the tournament.
1. No More Family Access to Dressing Rooms
A lot of drama was created on the internet about players’ families getting access to the teams’ dressing rooms. Now, the BCCI has imposed a serious action. The family members, friends of players, and the support staff will no longer be allowed inside the dressing rooms of teams. Even for practice sessions, they will not be allowed to visit.
To provide a place for them to communicate with their family, they will be provided a designated hospitality area where they can sit and watch the match. This restriction extends to the support staff as well; specialists like net bowlers and throw-down experts will need approval from the BCCI officials to get the pass for non-match days. Through this move, BCCI only wants to minimize the distraction for players during the match time and maintain a calm, focused environment for them.
2. Strict Team Travel Regulations
Earlier, star cricketers didn’t travel via the team bus and instead used their own cars to travel with the family. This created conflicts and management issues within the team. To cope with this problem, this year, BCCI has made it mandatory for all team players to travel by the team bus only for both practice sessions as well as match days.
The BCCI has made clear regulations so that solo or individual travel is strictly prohibited, although it has given the flexibility for teams to travel in two separate batches if needed. This regulation will clearly increase the bonding between the teams and provide better security for the players throughout the tournament.
3. Revamped Practice Session Guidelines
The BCCI, this time, is very keen to distribute its resources proportionately to each team without any discrimination. The new guidelines will ensure a fair usage of facilities between different teams. Be it the team with strong support or a team with a weak fan base, both of them will be allocated two nets in the practice area.
with this, they will also provide one wicket on the main square for range-hitting exercises of teams. This time, the concept of open nets has been scrapped completely by the BCCI officials. Teams can only use the nets that are allowed to them. Also, if a team finishes its practice early, then the other team will not be allowed to use the other team’s wicket for practice.
Officials have also mentioned that they have banned practice sessions on match days completely. Earlier, the teams used to do fitness tests on the main square during these days, but now they won’t be allowed to do so. For increasing security during practice sessions, now access to the dressing room as well as the field of play will only be allowed to accredited personnel.
4. Match-Day Protocols – Discipline is Key
The regulations of IPL 2025 will be more stringent on match days. Even the accredited staff members need to carry their official IDs at all times otherwise, they won’t be allowed to continue their work. If anyone tries to violate these regulations, at first, they will be given a warning, but if they continue making these mistakes, monetary penalties will be imposed on the whole team.
The officials have also instructed the players this time to avoid hitting the ball into the LED boards voluntarily. If it happens by mistake, then it is fine, but it should not be done intentionally. The authorities have already marked designated sitting areas so that they can prevent anyone from obstructing the LED displays.
The authority is in no mood to handle the disrespectful behaviour of players for the tournament. Therefore, they have strictly enforced the Cap Rule. Players are instructed to wear orange and purple caps. These caps are used to denote the top run-scorer and wicket-taker. Respectively, during the tournament, and must be worn by players most of the time. Especially during the first two overs for broadcast visibility. If they choose not to wear them, they must still ensure the caps are visibly present for the initial overs.

5. Post-Match Dress Code and Support Staff Limitations
The players need to follow a strict dress code this time, even during post-match presentations. Floppy hats and sleeveless jerseys have been officially banned from the tournament. For the first-time violation of dress code rules, the players will be given a warning, but if they continue to do so, then this will lead to financial penalties on them.
Earlier, bigger teams used to carry a lot of support staff during the match, which used to create havoc. Now, the team will be limited to carrying a maximum of 12 accredited support staff. This number includes the team doctor. This will definitely ensure that only the essential people are present during the matches.
Another important update of IPL 2025 is regarding the jersey numbers. If any player wants to change his jersey number. He would have to communicate this message to the BCCI at least 24 hours in advance this time. The jersey with the new number should align with the dress code properly.
6. Captains’ Meeting – Getting Everyone on the Same Page
To convey these new rules and regulations of the IPL 2025, the authorities have planned to arrange a captain’s meeting on 20th March 2025 at the Cricket Centre in Mumbai. This meeting will ensure that the teams can understand the new changes, and if they have any queries, those queries can be resolved.
