League of Legends (LoL) World Championship 2025

Riot Games has announced a $5m prize pool for the League of Legends (LoL) World Championship 2025.
The Publisher Global Head of LoL Esports, Chris Greeley has confirmed the prize pool in an interview on March 16th.
The LoL World Championship has the most competition in the game year-long esports season. The worlds edition became the most wanted esports tournament in history, with 6.94m viewers which was grand finial between Bilibili Gaming and winner T1.
Looking at Greeley interview we can say this year they are going to break the record once again. The prize pool will be more than double $2.225m prize money from 2024. Greeley shared bonuses which were related to merch revenues could increase the team winnings even further.
In an announcement this month, Riot revealed the formate changes to Worlds 2025, which included the decrease in the team’s slot which was from 20 to 17. The is still long to the season-ending event which was held in China throughout October and November.
The First cross-regional event of the year was the First Stand Tournament, which was conducted last weekend. The newly introduced competition had around a $1m prize pool and Riot novel Fearless Draft format.
According to greely, the Fearless Draft will be continued for the 2025 tournaments aswell, before taking this decision they had taken feedback of all the players, professional games and local leagues who gave them a positive response.

LoL Esports Future
The Global Head of the LoL Esports has also discussed the current state of the game competitive ecosystem, where he discussed about the long term sustainability over profitability.
Greely said that Riot is eager to build an ecosystem where professional and mature organisation can grow and make profit.
Later he stated that he is satisfied with the path they have taken for the fifteen years and to look forward to it in the future as well. They are in the hope of being something like that in the next thirty years.
