Shubman Gill is a right-hand top-order batsman from Fazilka, Punjab, India also known for his big score in the game. He represents the Indian national team across all three formats. In IPL, Gill leads the Gujarat Titans team as a Captain, and he is also the vice-captain of the Indian ODI men’s team.
Gill has set significant records, such as being the youngest batsman to achieve a double century in ODIs, and also has the highest individual score by an Indian in men’s T20I matches.

Early life
Shubman Gill was born on 8 September 1999 in a Punjabi Sikh family. His father, Lakhwinder Singh, was an agriculturist. He identified his son’s cricketing talent at an early age. To support this emerging talent, the family moved to Mohali, which allowed them to be close to the facilities and better training opportunities from the Punjab Cricket Association.
This relocation was crucial, as it provided Shubman with better opportunities to refine his skills and begin a journey that would lead him to represent India on an international level. Gill’s dedication was evident from a young age; at just eight years old, he would wake up at 3:30 A.M. to prepare for a practice session starting at 4 A.M., attend school, and then return in the afternoon for additional cricket training. His relentless effort is certainly yielding results now in games.
Domestic career
Shubman Gill began his domestic career with Punjab, making his List A debut in the 2016–17 Vijay Hazare Trophy, followed by a century in just his second game. He made his first-class debut in the 2017–18 Ranji Trophy and scored a century in his second match against Services.
In the 2018 December Ranji Trophy, Gill impressed with a double century (268 runs) against Tamil Nadu and a crucial 148 against Hyderabad. Therefore, he became the leading run-scorer for Punjab that season with 728 runs in five matches. Gill captained the India Blue team in the 2019–20 Duleep Trophy and later led India C in the Deodhar Trophy, becoming the youngest to captain a side in the tournament’s final. In 2022, he joined Glamorgan as an overseas player for the County Championship, making his debut against Worcestershire.

International Career
Shubman Gill’s international journey began with the India U-19 team, where he stood out in the 2018 U-19 World Cup, finishing as the tournament’s top scorer and earning the Player of the Tournament award.
He made his ODI debut in January 2019 against New Zealand. In August 2019, Gill set the record as the youngest Indian batsman to score a double century in a first-class match against the West Indies.
Gill made his Test debut for India on 26 December 2020 in the 2020 Border–Gavaskar Trophy, and later played a key role in India’s historic Test series win in Australia in 2020–21, with a crucial 91-run knock at the Gabba. In 2022, he notched up his first ODI and Test centuries, followed by a double century against New Zealand in January 2023, becoming the youngest to achieve the feat in ODIs.
Gill made his T20 International debut on 3 January 2023, against Sri Lanka. He also scored his maiden T20I century (126 off 63 balls) in the third match, becoming the 5th indian player in the elite list of Indian players with centuries in all formats.
Gill was the highest run-scorer in the 2023 Asia Cup and played a crucial role in the World Cup the same year, where he became the fastest to 2000 ODI runs. In 2024, he led India for the first time in a series against Zimbabwe and entered the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy as the top-ranked ODI batter, starting with a match-winning century against Bangladesh.
IPL Career
Shubman Gill began his IPL career with Kolkata Knight Riders in 2018 after being picked for Rs 1.8 crore. Over four seasons with KKR with outstanding performance, he upskilled his gameplay and also won the Emerging Player award in 2019 and became the team’s highest run-scorer in IPL 2020 and 2021. He played a key role in KKR’s team but was released ahead of the 2022 season.
Then Gill was picked by the New team Gujarat Titans for Rs 8 crore in the auction and made an immediate impact, scoring 483 runs in the season and helping the team win the IPL title in their debut season. In 2023, he had a successful season where he scored 890 runs in the season, winning the Orange Cap, and recording three centuries, including a record-breaking 129 in the playoffs. Later in 2024, he was selected as the captain of the Gujarat Titans and had an impressive performance in the tournament.
Awards
Shubman Gill was awarded as the Player of the Tournament in the 2018 U-19 World Cup for his great performance. In 2019, he won the Emerging Player of the Tournament award in the IPL, showing his talent at the top level.
