Abhishek Sharma is an Indian left-handed batting all-rounder who represents Team India in the T20I format of cricket. He is known for his fearless batting, quick footwork, and clean six-hitting. Abhishek is regarded as one of the future stars of Indian white-ball cricket.

He started playing cricket at the age of 3.5 years. Later, he played several domestic matches, IPL matches, and Under-19 matches. His performances were recognised by the national selectors, and he was included in the 2024 T20I squad.

Early Life

Abhishek Sharma was born on 4 September 2000 in Amritsar, Punjab. His father, Raj Kumar Sharma, was a former cricketer and also a Punjab junior selector. His mother, Manju Sharma, is a housewife. Abhishek was the youngest of three siblings, with two elder sisters, Komal and Sonia.

He started playing cricket at the age of 3.5 years with the guidance of his father. He studied at Delhi Public School, Amritsar, where his early cricketing talent was recognised and encouraged. Shubman Gill was his childhood friend and teammate who often played together for Punjab in under-14 cricket.

Abhishek was impressed with his performance at a young age. He scored a century in his debut U-16 match in the 2015-16 Vijay Merchant Trophy.

During the COVID-19 lockdown, he was trained perfectly under the mentorship of former Indian player Yuvraj Singh.

Domestic Carrer

Abhishek Sharma started playing cricket at the age of 3.5 years itself under the guidance of his father. Later, he started playing cricket for the school team. On 6 October 2017, he made his first-class debut for Punjab in the 2017-18 Ranji Trophy.

Then, he made his List A debut in the 2018–19 Vijay Hazare Trophy for Punjab. Later, on 28 February 2021, he scored one of the fastest 100s in just 42 balls against Madhya Pradesh in List A cricket.

In the 2023–24 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Abhishek Sharma played an important role in winning the first-ever title for Punjab. He was the second-highest run scorer with 485 runs in 10 matches in that season.

His domestic experience built a strong foundation for his future. Later, in his U-16 debut match on the 2015-16 Vijay Merchant Trophy, he scored an impressive century.

Throughout his domestic career, Sharma has consistently contributed with the bat and as a left-arm orthodox spinner, making him a valuable all-round asset in the Indian domestic circuit.

International Carrer

Abhishek Sharma’s consistent knock in the domestic format gained the attention of national selectors. He made his international debut for India on 6 July 2024 in a T20I match against Zimbabwe. In the very next match, he scored his maiden T20I century (100 off 47 balls) against Zimbabwe. This was the fastest century by an Indian in terms of innings batted.

Then on 2 February 2025, he scored his second century (135 runs off 54 balls) against England. This was a record of the highest individual T20I score by an Indian.

After this knock, Abhishek Sharma was listed at No.2 in the ICC Men’s T20I Batting Rankings, becoming India’s top-ranked batter.

IPL Career

Abhishek Sharma made his IPL debut in 2018 for Delhi Daredevils. In his debut match, he scored an explosive 46 runs off 19 balls.

Then, in the 2019 IPL Auction, he was picked by the Sunrisers Hyderabad and became a regular member of the squad from the 2022 season onwards.

His breakthrough season was 2022, when he scored 426 runs in 14 matches at an average of 30.42.

In IPL 2024, he scored the fastest fifty for SRH against the Mumbai Indians in 16 balls.

Currently in IPL 2025, he was retained by the SRH for Rs 14 Cr and scored 141 runs off 55 balls against the Punjab Kings. This score was the highest score by an Indian in IPL history and the third-highest individual score in IPL overall.
