Apex Legends vs. Fortnite: Which Is the Bigger Esport ?

While ALGS Open new Orleans on the horizon, Apex Legends is also shaping up to becom the top esports games of 2025 so far.

We can say it is coming close to competing with the Fortnite and the numbers show the hero shooter has the equal potential as well to surpass the most popular games in the Esports scene.

Looking at the Esports Charts, we can say it is ranking up the competitive games in the esports scene. And now Apex Legends has been placed higher than Fortnite even after just hosting few events. Apex Legends is now ranked sixth, till now it has hosted two events in 2025 season: ALGS 2024 championships and 13YOG x Reddragon League and finals. Where the prize pool was over $2m and it got the peak Viewership of over 540,000.

As for the Fortnite, it is ranked seventh and has reached similar numbers with near of 30 events which were hosted this season. The most popular event was the Fornite Champion Series (FNS) 2025 majors which reached a peak of 480,000 in Europe. The prize pool was $2.3m.

The year 2025 is Going to be Apex Legends.

Apex Legend performance is a sign which shows the turning point between two games. In the past Fortnite was success in all the esport scene compared to Apex Legends, but now it 2025 might be different.

There is huge different in popularity for AL, but still it is very early to consider it has surprised Fortnite yet. While it was not the best year where Fortnite dwarfed Apex Legends in every category in 2024. 

Last year it offered a price pool of $12.8m and had got viewership upto 800,00 just during the FNCS 2024 Global Championship.

Now both the games are set to be featured in the Esport World Cup, which is going to feature the largest Esports Organisation in the world. Last year we saw that the Fortnite was the most popular title, it had got an average of over 25,000 viewers and the peak was around 73,000.

Now ALGS year 5 is setting up, lets see what will be the future of the Apex Legends this year.
