On Tuesday, September 3, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced that Brendon McCullum, who is now England’s Test Head Coach, will also be in charge of the White-Ball teams. McCullum’s contract has been extended to the end of 2027; he has been leading the Test squad since May 2022. He will be in charge of the white-ball and Test teams starting in January 2025, starting with England’s white-ball tour of India and going through the ICC Champions Trophy.

Marcus Trescothick will take over as England’s Interim Head Coach in the interim for their next series against Australia and their scheduled Caribbean trip later this year. Numerous people have praised McCullum’s efforts with the Test squad, and former captain Eoin Morgan has given the former wicketkeeper high endorsements for the position of England white-ball coach. After England’s failure to win the T20 World Cup, former coach Matthew Mott announced his resignation.

In response to the recent event, McCullum expressed his excitement about expanding his responsibilities to include the white-ball teams. The former batter for New Zealand declared himself prepared to take on the new task and collaborate closely with skipper Jos Buttler.

Brendon McCullum happy to took on the New Role

I’ve had a great experience working with the Test squad, and I can’t wait to expand my responsibilities to include the white-ball sides. I’m excited to work closely with Jos (Buttler) and the team to build on the solid foundations that are currently in place, and I’m ready to take on this new task.”

I found great resonance in Rob Key’s vision for the future of English cricket. With the timetable being less demanding the next year, the concept of a single coaching organization made perfect sense. The idea of leading both teams excites me, and I’m appreciative of the ECB’s and my family’s support as I assume these new duties.”

“English cricketers have a great deal of talent, and I’m excited to help them realize their full potential.” McCullum stated, “My objective is to establish an atmosphere where everyone can prosper and where we can maintain our elite level of competition across all formats.”

With the Test team finding success with McCullum’s Bazball ethos, he may now try to apply it to England’s white-ball squads. Following their unimpressive performances in the ODI World Cup 2023 and T20 World Cup 2024, Matthew Mott was fired.
