Harry Brook leaves the India series for personal reasons.
2 min readHarry Brook : Harry Brook, an England middle-order batsman with promise, will not go with the team to Hyderabad on January 25 for the first of five Test matches against India. Brook will travel back and miss the series for personal reasons, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) stated on Sunday, January 21, 2024. Dan Lawrence, a middle-order batsman who also bowls some off-spin will take Brook’s spot, the ECB announced later. Lawrence is expected to join the team within the next 24 hours, according to the cricket board.

“Harry Brook is set to return home with immediate effect for personal reasons from the England Men’s Test tour of India,” the ECB said in a statement on Brook. With all due respect, the Brook family begs privacy during this time. In view of this, the family and the ECB respectfully ask that the public and media respect their right to privacy and abstain from invading their personal space.”
As part of a pre-series preparation camp, Brook had gone to Abu Dhabi with the England men’s Test squad. Against South Africa in 2022, the dynamic right-hand hitter made his Test debut. He played his final match for the England whites in July 2023 at the Oval against Australia.

England is expected to arrive in India on Sunday after completing its pre-tour preparations in Doha. On January 25, the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad will host the maiden Test match. Brook played three ODIs and five T20Is when touring the West Indies with the England team after the ODI World Cup in India.

Brook performed miserably in T20Is, scoring only 50 runs in five games, despite amassing 114 runs—including a half-century—in the ODI series. In twelve Test matches, Brook amassed 1181 runs—four hundreds an: d seven half-centuries—while playing for England.
