Australia started off strong with a 123-run partnership between their openers, Aaron Finch and David Warner. The Indian bowlers struggled to contain the Australian batsmen, and the visitors posted a mammoth total of 208/3 in their allotted 20 overs.
India’s chase began on a shaky note as they lost their opener, Rohit Sharma, early in the innings. However, Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan steadied the ship with a 100-run partnership for the second wicket. Yadav, in particular, was in sublime form as he smashed 80 runs off just 42 balls.
After Kishan’s dismissal, Rinku Singh joined Yadav in the middle and the duo continued to pile on the runs. Singh played a crucial cameo of 22 runs off 14 balls, which included two sixes. Yadav’s wicket fell in the 17th over, but Singh held his nerve and finished the game off in style with a boundary off the last ball of the match.
India won the match by two wickets with one ball to spare, thanks to the heroics of Yadav and Singh. The win gave India a 1-0 lead in the five-match T20 series against Australia.
The match was a high-scoring affair, with both teams putting up a great show. The Indian bowlers will have to work on their line and length to restrict the Australian batsmen in the upcoming matches. The second T20 match between India and Australia will be held on November 28, 2023, at the Sardar Patel Stadium in Ahmedabad.
