The India team for the first Test match against Bangladesh was revealed by the BCCI on Sunday. Yash Dayal got his first call-up, and Rishabh Pant rejoined the Test team. Shreyas Iyer, however, was not included in the team.

Jasprit Bumrah made his debut in international cricket for the team after being a crucial part of India’s success in the T20 World Cup in June. In the Test series, Mohammed Siraj and Bumrah will be partnered; the other two pacers in the team are Dayal and Akash Deep. With four spinners in the side Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, and Ravichandran Ashwin. India has understandably chosen to mount a spin-heavy attack.

Before the India-Bangladesh series, the Duleep Trophy was widely expected to be important for selection in the Test team. Rishabh Pant, the wicketkeeper-batter, did not spare any effort in establishing an impression in the first round. Although Pant, who is playing for India B, had a quiet first innings as a batsman against India A, he was instrumental in helping the side set a competitive goal of 275 runs with a fast-bowling 61 off only 47 balls. Pant was flawless behind the wickets while wearing gloves, displaying his reflexes and abilities to full potential. He made a number of outstanding catches behind the stumps and maintained his lively demeanor throughout the game to keep the batters at bay.

Pant and Jurel Will be keeping the Wickets

Dhruv Jurel, who made his Test debut during the series against England earlier this year, kept his spot in the side with Pant. After veteran wicketkeeper-batter KS Bharat’s uneven performances, Jurel got his first call-up to the Test team. With significant contributions in the middle order, notably a strong 90-run performance in his second Test match in Ranchi, the 23-year-old soon attracted attention.

Pant, though, is probably going to start the series as the preferred wicketkeeper-batter. Apart from his noteworthy Test achievements, Pant has also been a consistent member of the Indian team in the white-ball forms and participated in the team’s most recent tour to Sri Lanka.

Virat back in the squad

Virat Kohli, the standout batsman for Team India, has rejoined the Test squad after missing the England series earlier this year for personal reasons. For all five of the Test matches in the series, Kohli withdrew from consideration for selection; this year, when he plays in the red-ball format, all eyes will be on the star batsman.

When the team visited Sri Lanka in August of last year, Kohli and skipper Rohit Sharma played in the ODIs for the first time since the World Cup. The series made clear how difficult it is for Indian hitters to deal with spin, which now draws attention to their approach against Bangladesh’s spin threat. Bangladesh just defeated India 2-0 in a clean sweep thanks in large part to their spinners.
