India vs Afghanistan 3rd T20I : Rohit Sharma’s Dominance
Following a golden and royal duck in the opening two matches, all eyes were on the batting star Rohit Sharma for the third and final T20I match against Afghanistan in Bengaluru. This was India’s final T20 international before the crucial ICC T20 World Cup in June 2024, and there had been much discussion over Rohit’s selection for the team, considering he had not captained a T20 international since the Afghanistan series fourteen months prior.
However, Rohit responded to all of the doubters and critics in the greatest way possible with a scorching bat. The squad was in danger, but India’s current all-around captain saved them by racing to a world-record sixth T20I century, which helped the hosts to a dominating total of 212.
After an exciting chase by the Afghans that resulted in a draw, he was forced to bat again in the Super Over. He scored 24 runs off only seven balls over the span of two innings that helped India pull off an incredible double Super Over victory and complete a 3-0 clean sweep.
With this win, Rohit matched the record held by the great Mahendra Singh Dhoni for the most victories by an Indian captain in the T20 International format with his 41st captaincy. While Rohit has attained the milestone in his 54th game as captain, MS Dhoni has amassed 41 victories in the 76 games in which he has captained the squad.
Rohit is expected to tie the score during the T20 World Cup, when he would most likely captain the Indian squad, since he is only one victory away from doing so. It’s evident from Rohit’s performance in the Bengaluru thriller that he is far from finished with the format. With Dhoni’s memorable first-ever victory in 2007, the 36-year-old elegant batter will be eager to assist India capture their second trophy at the competition.
