Mitchell Starc: Border-Gavaskar Trophy on Par with the Ashes for Australia
2 min readIndia’s season-opening Test series, the Border Gavaskar Trophy, will take place in Australia at the conclusion of this year. Over the past 20 years, Australia and India have been the most intense competitors, and since India discontinued playing bilateral Test matches against Pakistan, the BGT has grown to be one of the most significant Test bilaterals for India.
Fast bowler Mitchell Starc of Australia stated that, for their supporters as well, the BGT is one of the most significant Test series. According to Starc, who spoke with the Wide World Sports website, Australian cricket players and fans view the BGT as being comparable to the Ashes.

“At five games in, it’s probably comparable to an Ashes series.” We know India is a formidable squad, so we always aim to win every game at home,” Starc stated.
WTC Table 2025 Australia on Second
Currently leading the World Test Championship points table, Australia and India are expected to face off in the final, which is scheduled to take place at Lord’s in 2025. India has advanced to two WTC finals but has not yet been victorious in the tournament. Australia defeated India in the competition’s London Oval final the previous year.
There will be a really entertaining series for both the players and the spectators coming up as we now sit in the top two spots on the Test ladder,” Starc stated.
India, led by Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane, and Rohit Sharma, has dominated the series since Australia’s previous victory in the BGT in 2014. India defeated Australia 3-1 in the most recent BGT, which was held in India in 2023, to go to the WTC final.
“Hopefully, we’ll have that trophy back on our soil when we’re sitting there on January 8th,” Starc continued. Beginning on November 22, the India vs. Australia Test series will conclude with the New Year’s Test in January.
