Pakistan’s Super8 Qualification Scenario Unveiled
2 min readThe Pakistani cricket team’s T20 World Cup 2024 campaign has been dismal thus far, as the Babar Azam-led team lost to India by 6 runs on Sunday. Pakistan have suffered their second defeat in two games following their shock loss to the United States in their opening group round match. Pakistan was soundly defeated by India’s pacers, particularly Jasprit Bumrah, who displayed disciplined play despite taking three wickets apiece from Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf to dismiss India for 119. Pakistan’s hopes of making it to the Super 8 stage of the competition were severely damaged by the defeat to India.

Pakistan has two games under their belt with zero points, and their chances of qualifying are now very dim. In the hopes that the United States and Canada do not win any more games, the Babar Azam-led team will need to win its final two games against Canada and Ireland.
Net Run Rate will determine who advances to the Super 8 stage, even if Pakistan wins both of its remaining matches and the United States loses its final two. After four games, both teams will have four points, and Pakistan needs a few more outcomes to go their way.

Jasprit Bumrah reflects on his match-winning performance over Pakistan at the #T20WorldCup in New York 👇 https://t.co/FDa418g8Mu
“It feels excellent. The wicket improved slightly after the sun came out, but we still thought we were a touch under. It feels wonderful since we were really diligent. I made a concerted effort to strike the seam and execute with clarity, and when everything turned out nicely, I was pleased. We were thrilled with the support, which gives us energy on the pitch, and it seemed like we were playing in India. We concentrate on the now. Men in blue performed really well in the two games we played. You appear to play well and adhere to your procedures,” Bumrah said following the game.
