Riyan Parag is set to make his debut for India in the final ODI match against Sri Lanka

In the third One-Day International (ODI) against Sri Lanka on Wednesday at the R Premadasa Stadium, India will be hoping to avoid losing the series and riyan is likely to make his debut. India lost the second One-Day International by 32 runs after the first finished in an unusual draw. Since August 1997, India has not lost an ODI series against Sri Lanka. In the series, Sanath Jayasuriya, the current head coach of Sri Lanka, was his team’s top wicket taker and second-highest run scorer.

Rohit Sharma and company lost the second game by 32 runs, after being able to equal the score in the first. It is well knowledge that India will not make several changes during a series, regardless of the outcome, and this is likely to be the case here as well. But it’s possible that they decide to bench Shivam Dube in favor of Riyan Parag, an additional all-round player with bowling spin. In other words, Parag would play in his first ODI.

Virat Kohli Oddly Performance

India’s batting would remain the area of worry, though. Among the visiting hitters, Virat Kohli oddly appeared to be the most exposed. Even though Kohli has a renownedly amazing ODI record at the venue, having cracked four straight hundreds here, the former captain of India has not yet demonstrated any of that domination. In two games, he scored 38 runs, but more worrying than the amount of runs was the way he was dismissed.

At the middle of the match, Kohli appeared reserved, especially after Rohit’s flamboyant starts. All Kohli had to do was build on it. Though he ultimately succumbed to their leg-spin in the first encounter against Wanindu Hasaranga and the six-wicket man Jeffrey Vandersay in the second, the master batter inside him stayed dormant.

Although Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul had previously outperformed spinners, they were unable to contain the Lankan slow bowlers with their feet and wrists in this situation. They also performed poorly in the area of rotating strike, an area in which Indian hitters excelled in one-day internationals, especially during the 2023 World Cup. To identify a solution, they need just observe Rohit’s batting, focusing more on the confidence and strategy behind his innings than on his style of play.
