Rohan Jaitley likely to be replacepent of Jay Shah

Although it’s unclear if BCCI secretary Jay Shah has chosen to submit his nomination for the position, he is prepared to take the helm as the next ICC Chairman. With support from nearly 15 of the 16 members of the ICC board, the 35-year-old is undoubtedly in the lead, but he has less than 24 hours to decide whether to join the global governing body before August 27 nominations close. The more important question still stands, though: who would Shah replace in the BCCI?
Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) president Rohan Jaitley has emerged as the front-runner to succeed Shah as the new BCCI secretary, and there is broad agreement inside the Indian board on his nomination, per a story published in Dainik Bhaskar on Monday.
Who is Rohan Jatiley?
Born in New Delhi, Rohan is the politician’s son of the late Arun Jaitley, who was India’s Finance Minister. Following in his father’s legal career, Rohan practices law and concentrates on issues before the Delhi High Court and the Supreme Court of India. Earlier this year, he was appointed as the Central Government Standing Counsel for the Delhi High Court.

About four years ago, Rohan entered the world of cricket administration when he was chosen to succeed his father as president of the DDCA, a post his father had held for fourteen years. Earlier this year, he was re-elected to a second term without facing any opposition. Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi successfully hosted five ODI World Cup matches last year under his leadership. This year, the Delhi Premier League is in its debut year, and some of the biggest names in cricket, like Rishabh Pant and Ishant Sharma, are playing.
In addition to his background in cricket administration, one of the main factors making Rohan a formidable contender to succeed Shah is Arun’s positive reputation during his time as vice-president of the BCCI.
Who are the possible rivals of Rohan Jaitley?
Shah has not yet chosen to submit his bid for the ICC chairperson, therefore his replacement as BCCI secretary is still up in the air. However, a PTI story on Saturday did allude to other potential rivals for Rohan, including former CAB president Avishek Dalmiya and other youthful officials from state units, such as Dilsher Khanna of Punjab, Vipul Phadke of Goa, and Prabhtej Bhatia of Chattisgarh, a former member of the IPL Governing Council. Will BCCI, however, choose a brand-new candidate for the position?
Naturally, since there are no hard and fast laws, it is possible. However, the president, secretary, and treasurer are three important positions in the BCCI’s power structure, according to a former secretary.
