On Wednesday, August 21, during the first innings of the first Test match between Pakistan and Bangladesh, Shan Masood, the captain of the Pakistani cricket team, was left furious. Batting in the seventh over of the game, left-arm fast bowler Shoriful Islam caught Masood behind. Masood was declared not out by the on-field umpire, but the Decision Review System reversed the ruling.

Masood was defeated by an inswinger from Shoriful Islam, who had him come out early following Abdullah Shafique’s ejection. As soon as the ball passed Masood who was standing quite near to both the whole Bangladeshi squad sprang up and loudly demanded that the Pakistan captain be removed from the game.

Bangladeshi pacer Shoriful requested for a DRS review even though the on-field umpire said it was not out. The video that showed the ball clipping the pads and entering the wicketkeeper’s hands was seen by third umpire Michael Gough. Masood believed that he was rescued, but Gough ruled in favor of Bangladesh.

As Masood stormed out of the crease, supporters scratched their heads, attempting to piece out why he had been fired. Since the ball had hit Masood much outside of off stump, there was no possibility of an LBW.

Babar Azam fell for a duck after he accompanied the batter back into the dugout following Masood’s ejection. Pakistan was taken aback by the consecutive dismissals on the rather verdant Rawalpindi track. Pakistan have lost three wickets for 51 runs in 14 overs at the time of writing.
