Shan Masood Dismisses Match-Fixing Allegations in Pakistan Cricket Team
2 min readBefore the two Test series against Bangladesh, Pakistan’s captain for the series, Shan Masood, dismissed rumors that match manipulation had occurred inside the squad. Notably, there have been several rumors of gathering in the dressing room ever since Pakistan’s disastrous performance in the T20 World Cup.
Following these stories, a journalist questioned Masood about the message he would like to convey to his teammates in the wake of Arshad Nadeem’s historic Olympic gold medal. The reporter brought up the point that athletes might receive far more rewards for representing their country honorably than they can from match-fixing and other illegal actions.
Match Fixing Allegations
Masood responded to the topic by saying that he couldn’t question anyone’s motivations inside the team because everyone is there to help Pakistan win games. He added that while everyone wants to win games for Pakistan, they must improve on previous performances.
Since you mentioned “match fixing,” I am unable to question anyone’s motivation. Nobody can, in my opinion, challenge Pakistan cricket’s integrity with the existing system. It’s something that I completely disagree with. Second, the World Cup is over, and we should focus on the future. During the pre-match news conference, Masood stated, “I can assure you that all of our players want to win matches for Pakistan, but wins and losses are there, and we’re the saddest whenever we lose.”
Speaking further, Masood praised Arshad Nadeem as a national hero and declared that they would strive to make people smile just as much as he did.
Arshad Nadeem is a national hero, as you mentioned. We’re thrilled that everything he’s accomplished thus far has helped him rise even higher in stature. We’ll be motivated by Arshad Nadeem’s achievements and strive to elevate Pakistan even more,” he continued.
