Starting on July 27, India’s trip of Sri Lanka will comprise three Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) and a three-match ODI series. The BCCI selection committee made some significant roster changes for the forthcoming trip, most notably the appointment of Suryakumar Yadav as T20I captain in place of Hardik Pandya.

Suryakumar has had a lot of trouble in one-day internationals, as the 50-over World Cup last year made very clear. In 37 ODIs, Suryakumar has averaged a meager 25.76 and has had difficulty keeping up with the pace. The selectors have made the decision to concentrate their efforts on other options with just six One-Day Internationals remaining until the Champions Trophy.

“Although Gambhir did not specifically advocate for Surya in the call, he made it abundantly clear that he would want to work with a captain whose workload does not become a stumbling block,”. Agarkar expressed his opinions clearly.”

Similar to Suryakumar, Hardik was left off of the ODI team. India does not have a substitute for Hardik, but they are focusing on Axar Patel and Washington Sundar to fill the role of bowling all-rounder when the Champions Trophy is being held in Pakistan.

Shubman Gill, the opener, is now a potential leader because he was named vice-captain for both the ODI and T20I teams. Ravindra Jadeja may soon stop playing in ODIs as well. He has already stepped down from T20Is. Axar Patel’s performance has caused him to lose standing among the squad. We saw Jadeja slipping out of the spotlight as Sundar also made an appearance.

Both teams have included Riyan Parag. In domestic cricket, he bats at number five, and in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, he has shown consistency. Due to his flexible position, Parag has an opportunity to be included in the lower-order slot. Ravi Bishnoi was one of Gambhir’s first signings at LSG and is expected to be a key player in the near future.
