Yashasvi Jaiswal Sets World Record with 13 Runs Off 1 Ball

ICC T20 World Cup 2024 champion Yashasvi Jaiswal made an impression in the ongoing series against hosts Zimbabwe by hitting a brilliant knock in the penultimate game, which paved the way for a convincing victory against Sikandar Raza’s team on Saturday. India faced Raza and Co. in the fifth and final Twenty20 International of the series, one day after Shubman Gill and company destroyed Zimbabwe by 10 wickets to establish an unbeatable 3-1 lead over the hosts.

With a stunning six off Zimbabwean captain Raza, opener Jaiswal gave India an incredible start in the opening over of the game. To achieve the best outcome, Jaiswal struck a hard blow to clear the deep square leg after spinner Raza delivered a full throw. Raza had overstepped on the opening ball of the match, giving India a free shot. Seizing the chance, Jaiswal struck another six as India amassed 13 runs off of a single legitimate delivery.

In the shortest format of the game, opener Jaiswal made history by being the first player to score twelve runs off the first legitimate delivery. Zimbabwe staged a comeback in the opening over, but spinner Raza made apologies by putting India on a dream start in the same over. Retaliating against the well-hit Indian opener, Raza dismissed Jaiswal with the fourth ball of the first over. Raza also sent an angry farewell to Jaiswal after the Harare Sports Club breakthrough in the fifth Twenty20 international.

In the fourth Twenty20 International at the same location, Jaiswal struck a spectacular 93 off 53 balls to help India defeat Zimbabwe by 10 wickets. Power-hitter Abhishek Sharma (14) also left Shubman’s India in the third over, after the cheap loss of Jaiswal in the fifth Twenty20 International. India was reduced to 40-3 during the powerplay when Blessing Muzarabani of Zimbabwe claimed the crucial wicket of captain Gill (13).
