On the last day of the 1st Test match between England and India at Emerald Headingley, Leeds. England secured a victory by defeating India by 5 wickets and leads the series by 1-0.
On the fifth day, England’s opening pair Zak Crawley (65) and Ben Duckett (149) gave a strong start with a 188-run partnership. However, Ollie Pope (8) and Harry Brook (0) were dismissed early and failed to make an impact.
Then, Joe Root played the crucial knock and led England to victory by remaining unbeaten. The star performers were Ben Duckett, who scored 149, and Joe Root, who scored an unbeaten 56.
In the Indian bowling unit, Prasidh Krishna and Shardul Thakur took two wickets each. Ravindra Jadeja took one wicket, but the expected wicket-taker, Jasprit Bumrah, remained wicketless.
Despite having a good start, India was unable to maintain momentum towards victory in the series. Their batting performance was quite good, with five centuries overall, but poor fielding, average bowling, and inexperienced captaincy cost them the match.
