While Muerta is expected to be released in early 2023, the hero’s release was predicted by a member of the Dota 2 community on the Dota 2 subreddit a few days prior to the announcement. Muerta was revealed to the Dota 2 community as its 124th hero at The International 2022 (TI11) after the Ability Draft show match at TI11.

While there is currently little information regarding the revenant hero, it appears that a member of the community managed to find valuable information regarding the upcoming hero.

Here is what we know about Muerta so far

Muerta’s name in Spanish meant the feminine form of death in Spanish and her design is heavily based on Mexico’s Day of the Dead holiday, where people would honour their deceased with many different decorated skulls and Aztec marigold flowers.

According to Dota 2 community member LboyAx Gaming on Reddit, Muerta’s upcoming appearance in the Dota 2 universe has already been foretold prior to the hero’s teaser announcement.

Additionally, it was revealed that Asan, the Phantom Assassin’s Persona that was released along with the TI11 Battle Pass has voice lines related to Muerta.

Unused Allied Voicelines (towards a unknown hero)

  • To you I owe everything. I won’t let us fail.
  • My childhood dream comes true: to fight at your side!
  • Guide my hand, Mother*. I shall kill for* you like always.

Unused Rival Voicelines (towards a unknown hero)

  • Why did you force my hand?
  • Why…mother? I should have taken…my own life…
  • Now I live my nightmare…and you are no longer here to wake me…

In addition to the persona’s voiceline, Dota 2’s announcement of Muerta describes her as “An enduring revenant reveals herself with promises of a ruinous reckoning to follow.” which further solidifies LboyAx Gaming’s basis on the upcoming revenant hero.

Furthermore, the item Revenant’s Broach is heavily connected to Muerta, as she could be the “Fallen Guardian” mentioned in this item’s lore. Additionally, the hero was seen wearing the item herself in the announcement trailer.
