Newcastle Appoints Dan Mitchell as New Sporting Director, Replacing Ashworth
2 min readPaul Mitchell, who was just recently linked to Manchester United, will take over as Newcastle United’s next sporting director. The Premier League powerhouse confirmed his appointment on July 4. Like Ashworth, Mitchell too has outstanding experience as the Director of Scouting at Southampton and Tottenham Hotspurs, mostly at Southampton. Prior to signing with Ashworth, Mitchell’s most recent position was with AS Monaco in Ligue 1, which also put him under United’s notice.
Since Saudi Arabia’s national wealth fund acquired Newcastle, under the leadership of Saudi Prime Minister Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the team has significantly improved both on and off the field. Newcastle United’s latest Premier League triumphs, which included their 20th consecutive UEFA Champions League qualifying in the 2022–2023 season, were greatly aided by Dan Ashworth. Mitchell will only have very high expectations going forward, especially with the summer transfer window open and the new season quickly approaching.
