Paralympics 2024 :India wins 20 medals best ever Medal Tally for India in Paralympics
2 min readOn September 3, Tuesday, following a late push by the delegation on Day 6 of the Paris Paralympics 2024, India’s medal total reached 20. After a few close calls at the beginning of the competition, India ended the day on a high note thanks to medals won late into Tuesday by Deepthi Jeevanji, Sharad Kumar, Mariyappan Thangavelu, Ajeet Singh, and Sundar Gurjar. In the Women’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions SH1 Final and Women’s Shot Put – F34 Final, respectively, Bhagyashri Mahavrao and Avani Lekhara came in fifth.
In Tokyo in 2021, India achieved their highest-ever Paralympic medal total of 19 wins. India has four more competition days to go and hopes to surpass 25 and establish a new record.
Pooja Khanna was also eliminated in the Women’s Individual Recurve Open quarterfinals, leaving Jeevanji and the javelin and high jump competitors to take the lead. In the women’s 400m T20 final, Jeevanji won bronze, earning India’s third track medal. With a timing of 55.82 seconds, the world sprint champion took first place.

Medals For India
Ajeet Singh and Sundar Gurjar won gold for India in the men’s javelin F46 category at the Paris Paralympics with fantastic performances. The pair won silver and bronze with their season-best throws, capping an incredible 2-3 result for the nation.
After lagging behind Sundar Gurjar for the most of the competition, Ajeet Singh took the lead with his fifth throw, going 65.62 meters to win the silver medal. Sundar Gurjar won the medal after coming in second with a best throw of 64.96 meters. Guillermo Varona Gonzalez of Cuba won the competition and set a new Area Record with a throw of 66.14 meters.
Rinku, the third competitor from India, placed fifth in the competition and threw 61.58 meters, which was also a season-best effort.
Tuesday, September 3rd was the Men’s High Jump – T63 Final. Sharad Kumar of India took home the silver medal, while Mariyappan Thangavelu took home the bronze. Reaching a height of 1.88 meters, Sharad broke the previous Paralympic record in the T42 category, held by Mariyappan, the silver medallist from the Tokyo Games. With a best leap of 1.85 meters, Mariyappan had to settle for bronze this time.
The third contender from India, Shailesh Kumar, cleared the height on his second try, but he did not receive a medal despite recording a personal best of 1.85 meters.
