Jasprit Bumrah is a unique sling-arm bowler who bowls a deadly yorker. He was born on December 6, 1993, in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. Bumrah is known as a yorker specialist for his precise yorkers with perfect line and length.

He developed a passion for cricket at a young age by playing with a tennis ball. His bowling style is self-developed and natural. Entered competitive cricket through local clubs and school tournaments in Gujarat. Within a short period, Bumrah grew as one of India’s premier fast bowlers across all formats.

Early Life

Jasprit Jasbirsingh Bumrah was born on December 6, 1993, in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, in a Punjabi Sikh family. Bumrah lost his father, Jasbir Singh Bumrah, when he was 7 years old. He was raised by his mother, Daljit Bumrah, who was a school principal. His mother supported him in education and also in playing cricket.

Bumrah began to play cricket from his young age, where he was bowling with a tennis ball in his neighbourhood. He developed his unique bowling style in his early school days, which was inspired by Wasim Akram and Lasith Malinga.

Despite financial and emotional hardships, Bumrah kept focus on the game and achieved his goal. He was a standout performer in school and club-level tournaments. Later, he joined the Gujarat state team and played well, and recognised himself as one of the valuable bowlers. Then he also got the chance to be a part of IPL teams and to feature in the Indian team.

Domestic Carrier

Bumrah made his domestic debut in the 2012-13 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. In that season, he took 3/14 in the final against Punjab and helped Gujarat to win the title. This performance earned him a spot in the Mumbai Indians team.

Then he made his first-class debut for Gujarat in the 2013 Ranji Trophy against Vidarbha. In the same year, he made his debut in List A cricket by playing in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Later, he was selected for the India A team and performed well in various overseas tours. Recognising his skills in bowling, he got a chance in the Indian Team and also paved the way for his long IPL contract.

International Career

Jasprit Bumrah made his international debut by playing the ODI against Australia on January 23, 2016, at Sydney. He was India’s leading wicket-taker in the 2019 World Cup with 18 wickets in 9 matches. His best ODI figure is 6/19 against England in 2022 at The Oval. Bumrah is also one of the fastest Indian pacers to get 100 wickets in ODIs.

On January 5, 2018, Bumrah made his Test debut against South Africa in Cape Town. He became the first Asian fast bowler to get 5-wicket hauls against South Africa, England, Australia, and the West Indies in 2018. In 2019, he took a hat-trick of wickets against the West Indies and became the third Indian to do so. His best Test bowling figures are 6/27 against the West Indies in 2019. Later in 2022, he was appointed as a vice-captain of the Indian Test Team.

On January 26, 2016, Bumrah made his T20I debut against Australia in Adelaide. Bumrah is one of the top T20I wicket-takers for India of all time.

Therefore, Bumrah has taken over 350 wickets in the international format and is regarded as one of the top fast bowlers in world cricket.

IPL Career

Jasprit Bumrah made his IPL debut in 2013 with the Mumbai Indians. He was bought by MI for Rs 10 lakhs. From 2013 until now, he has been a part of the MI team. His contribution is much more in MI winning multiple IPL titles.

Bumrah is one of the yorker and death specialist bowlers in the Mumbai Indians. He holds one of the best economy rates among fast bowlers in the IPL and is also MI’s leading wicket-taker in multiple seasons. Then in IPL 2022, he took a five-wicket haul with a 2.5 economy rate against the KKR, which was a rare achievement in bowling.

Meanwhile, in the 2025 IPL Mega Auction, he was retained by the MI for Rs 12 crore and performed well in bowling.
