Jos Buttler, the dynamic English wicketkeeper-batsman, one of the most explosive white-ball batsmen in the world, Jos Buttler has been a game-changer in international cricket. He represents the England cricket team in all three formats(Test, T20I, and ODI) and is known for his innovative, aggressive batting style, especially in limited-overs cricket. He was also the captain of England’s white-ball teams. Under his captaincy, England won the 2022 ICC T20 World Cup.
Buttler is England’s leading run scorer in T20Is with a record of 3535 runs and also holds the national record for most dismissals as a wicket-keeper in ODIs and T20Is.

Early Life
Jos Butler was born on 8 September 1990 in Taunton, Somerset, England. He studied at King’s College, Taunton, this college was known for encouraging sporting talents. Jos was the exceptional cricketer from his young age, especially as a batsman and wicket-keeper he contributed in the school and county age-group cricket matches, regularly scoring heavily in youth matches.
Jos Buttler represented Somerset at underage levels, quickly earning recognition as a future star. His performances in school cricket led to his inclusion in Somerset’s professional setup by his late teens.

Domestic Career
Initially, Jos Buttler played for the Somerset underage teams (U-13, U-15, U-17) at his young age. In 2009 Jos made his first-class debut for Somerset, replacing injured Justin Langer, then in 2010 he scored his maiden first-class century (144) and helped Somerset reach multiple T20 and 40-over finals in 2010 and 2011. Then in 2013, Jos left Somerset due to limited wicket-keeping opportunities and moved to Lancashire.
In 2013, Jos signed for Lancashire to pursue more regular wicket-keeping and scored his first century for Lancashire against Durham in 2014. Afterwards, in 2016 he extended his Lancashire contract for three more years.
International Career
Jos Buttler made his initial T20 International debut on 31 August 2011 against India, he is one of the most explosive T20 openers in the world. In the 2021 T20 World Cup, Jos scored a century (101*) against Sri Lanka, becoming the first Englishman to score a century in all three formats. At the 2022 T20 World Cup, he led the team in front as a captain and defeated Pakistan in the final, won the 2022 T20 World Cup.
Buttler holds multiple England records, such as the highest runs, the most-capped T20I player, and the Most dismissals as wicket-keeper.
On 21 February 2012, Buttler made his Debut in ODI cricket against Pakistan, and in the 2015 ODI Series against New Zealand, he scored the fastest ODI century by that time (66 balls) as an Englishman. He was the wise captain of the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup-winning team, where he scored a notable 312 runs in the Tournament, and in the finals, he scored a crucial 59 runs and in the super over made run out of Martin Guptill.
After Eoin Morgan’s retirement in June 2022, Jos Buttler was appointed as the ODI and T20I Captain.
Jos made his Test Cricket Debut on 27 July 2014 against India and played a total of 57 matches, where he scored 2907 runs with notable 2 centuries and 18 fifties. He was criticized for inconsistency, but played several crucial knocks for England. Later in 2022 stepped down as the white-ball captain after a disappointing Champions Trophy tournament and focused on limited-overs formats.
IPL Career
- 2016: Buttler made his debut in the IPL by playing for the Mumbai Indians. He was bought for Rs 3.8 crore, where he performed well in playing 14 matches and scored 255 runs with a strike rate of 138.58.
- 2017: In this season, he was retained by the Mumbai Indians for Rs 3.8 crore and contributed well to the MI’s title-winning.
- 2018: Rajasthan Royals bought Buttler for Rs 4.4 Crore and promoted him as an opener, where he scored 48 runs in 13 matches at a strike rate of 155.24, including five consecutive fifties.
- 2019: Rajasthan Royals retained Butler for Rs 4.4 crore, and he continued as a key player, maintaining a strong strike rate
- 2020: In this Season also he was retained by the Rajasthan Royals for Rs 4.4 crore, where he scored 328 runs at an average of 33.00.
- 2021: Again in 2021, he was retained by the Rajasthan Royals and scored his notable maiden IPL century with 124 runs off 64 balls against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
- 2022: In 2022 Buttler was again retained by the Rajasthan Royals for Rs 10 crore. This season was one of the finest season for the buttler where he scored 863 runs, the second-highest in a single IPL season, and four centuries.
- 2023: Rajasthan Royals retained Buttler for Rs 10 crore, and he played well by scoring 392 runs in 14 matches with a strike rate of 139.
- 2024: This season, also Rajasthan Royals retained the buttle for the same Rs 10 crore, where he played 11 matches and scored 359 runs with a strike rate of 140.78.
- 2025: In the IPL 2025 mega auction, Gujarat Titans bought Buttler for Rs 15.75 crore, where he became GT’s expensive pick.

Awards:
Jos Buttler was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the 2020 New Year Honours for his services to cricket, particularly recognizing his pivotal role in England’s 2019 Cricket World Cup victory.
