Overwatch 2 Teams Up with G.I. Joe for Action-Packed Crossover Event

Overwatch 2 Teams Up with G.I. Joe for Action-Packed Crossover Event

Blizzard Entertainment, the developer of Overwatch 2, has announced a new collaboration with the iconic G.I. Joe franchise, featuring tiered challenges running from July 1 to July 14. This is a limited-time event that introduces a lineup of exclusive cosmetic skins and themed challenges inspired by Hasbro’s legendary action figures.

The event looks to offer both striking skins and action-packed gameplay as well as generous rewards of 90s pop culture. With both heroes and villains from G.I. Joe stepping into the Overwatch universe, this event promises nostalgia, action, and plenty of rewards.

Iconic Skins and Hero Transformations

In this crossover, five heroes from Overwatch 2 will be transformed to fit characters from the G.I. Joe universe. Genji becomes the stealthy Snake Eyes, while newcomer Freja is transformed into the skilled Scarlett. On the villainous side, Widowmaker takes on Baroness, while Reaper becomes Cobra Commander, and Doomfist takes on the role of the metallic-armed Destro.

These cosmetics can be purchased individually through Hero Bundles or collectively via the all-inclusive G.I. Joe Mega Bundle, which contains all available content at once.

The prices of these bundles have not been revealed yet; it may cost between 2,800 and 5,900 Overwatch coins. An animated gameplay trailer showcasing these skins has been released online, which allows fans to look at their design and animations before release.

Special Op Challenges and No-Cost Rewards

Apart from the cosmetics, Blizzard now offers a set of in-game “Special Op” challenges to complete during the event. These challenges are available in Quick Play, Competitive, and Stadium modes and offer enticing free rewards, which include themed voice lines, sprays, and weapon charms as well as a G.I. Joe player title.

Last but not least, players who complete all the challenges will get a reward of 25,000 Battle Pass XP, which certainly adds value to the grind for seasonal progression.

Wins accrued during the event period are counted towards double progress, which can increase playtime substantially.

Players can expect that with nostalgia plus fresh content for old and new players alike, the Overwatch 2 x G.I. Joe event will turn out to be one of the best crossovers this year.
