Early Life
Rinku Singh was born on 12 October 1997 in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, in a middle-class family. His father, Khanchandra Singh, worked in an LPG distribution company, and his mother was a housewife. Rinku was the third child out of five siblings.
He was helping his family financially by doing some work. Out of that, he had a passion for cricket. Initially, he was playing cricket with tennis balls on the streets. Later, he made a name in a local tournament with his performance.
Therefore, he was selected for the various underage teams in Uttar Pradesh, which laid a strong foundation for his cricket career.
Domestic Career
Rinku Singh started his domestic cricket journey by representing the various Uttar Pradesh underage teams. He was in the Uttar Pradesh under-16, under-19, and under-23 teams.
Rinku made his List A debut in March 2014 at the age of 16. In that debut match only, he scored an impressive 83 runs, which showed he was one of the promising talents.
Later, He made his first-class debut on 5 November 2016 in the 2016-17 Ranji Trophy.
Rinku Singh was one of the key batsmen for the Uttar Pradesh domestic team. His breakthrough season came in the 2018-19 Ranji Trophy, where he was a leading run scorer for Uttar Pradesh with 803 runs in nine matches. The outstanding performance in the domestic format earned him wider recognition and impressed the various selectors. He proved himself as one of the consistent batters in domestic cricket.
International Career
Rinku Singh made his T20I debut on 18 August 2023 against Ireland in Dublin. He showcased himself as one of the best finishers in the T20I format with his explosive batting. Later, on 12 December 2023, he scored his maiden T20I fifty (68*) against South Africa.
Then, on 19 December 2023, he made his ODI debut against South Africa. In the 2nd ODI, he played a match-winning knock.
Rinku made a record-breaking unbeaten 190-run partnership with Rohit Sharma in a T20I on 17 January 2024 against Afghanistan. This was the highest-ever T20I partnership for India and the world’s highest for the 5th wicket.
IPL Career
Rinku Singh began his IPL career with Kings XI Punjab in 2017. As it was his debut season, he did not get much playing time in that IPL season.
Then, in the 2018 IPL auction, Rinku was purchased by the Kolkata Knight Riders for Rs 80 lakhs. Thereafter, he became a consistent squad member for the KKR team.
In May 2019, he was suspended for 3 months by the BCCI for playing in an unauthorised Ramadan T20 League in Abu Dhabi.
Then he missed the 2021 IPL season due to a knee injury.
In 2022, he was retained by KKR and had a setback in that season. In April 2023, he showed his extraordinary performance by hitting five consecutive sixes in the final over against the Gujarat Titans, chasing down 29 runs.
