VALORANT icon Tyson ‘TenZ’ Ngo surprised his fans by returning to professional VALORANT. He has joined the Sentinels’ academy team, Cubert Academy, as a temporary substitute player for the upcoming matches.

TenZ is an esports legend who has a global fan base with his insane plays. Now he will be playing as a substitute for Logan ‘Skuba’ Jenkins, who was recently signed to NRG.

TenZ has also announced that he will not only compete but stream his POV live during the tournament through his official Twitch Channel.

He has already created so much anticipation around his return that fans are looking forward to the match against Winthrop University on May 20th, which is expected to break all viewership records, considering the hype of his fans.

TenZ’s Unexpected Return to the Competitive Scene

In 2024, TenZ stepped away from professional VALORANT permanently and became a content creator for Sentinels. But an unexpected slot opening up in Cubert Academy led the TenZ to step back onto the competitive stage as a temporary substitute player for the upcoming matches.
In his X (Twitter) handle, he has said that “Going to be subbing in playoffs for Cubert Academy, will be streaming my POV on my channels! Time to make my Challenger’s debut.”

His match first appears on the schedule as a best-of-three with Winthrop University, which will be available live on VCT North America’s Twitch and YouTube channels. Additionally, numerous creators will host watch parties, which guarantees huge social media engagement and buzz.

Even though Cubert Academy has secured a spot in VCT Challengers NA Stage 3, they cannot participate in Ascension Americas 2025 because partnered organization academy teams cannot compete. Still, they do enjoy protection from relegation, which offers a unique advantage in the tournament format.

Fan Hype and Legacy Impact

TenZ’s comeback not only stokes the excitement fire among fans but also opens the door for speculation concerning a more permanent return. Described as one of the game’s most beloved and mechanically gifted players, his VALORANT LAN event debut was back during VCT Masters Reykjavík 2021 when he helped Sentinels claim victory as the franchise’s first international achievement.

Sentinels CEO Rob Moore responded with excitement, tweeting: “I guess he’s back! When Sen needs a super sub, there is only one man to call @TenZOfficial!” to which lots of fans from the competitive side supported Moore’s statement with a positive approach.

Tenz brings out the viewership potential with his appearances, and we expect the records might even shatter for a challenger’s level match. Regardless of whether this marks the start of a long-term return or just a temporary return. It’s definitely true that TenZ brings hype to every match he plays in.
