Valorant Mobile Is Live in China! Everything You Need to Know

Valorant Mobile has finally been launched exclusively in China on 21 April 2025, offering a full mobile version of the FPS tailored for touch controls. After years of anticipation and development, Riot Games has officially launched the mobile version of its tactical first-person shooter, but it has been released only in China for now.
Though it’s not released globally, Riot has stated it plans to bring the game to more regions over time, based on how it performs in the Chinese market.
Development Timeline
2021: Riot Games announced VALORANT Mobile on Valorant’s first anniversary.
2022: A beta version was tested in China, with leaks showing UI and agent selection.
2023: Riot takes over development from Tencent and restarts development from scratch at their LA Studios.
2024: Beta footage leaks from China show high FPS performance and a replay system.
21 April 2025: Game officially launched in China under the name “Valorant: Operation Primal”.

Why the Release Started in China
Riot wants to test Valorant Mobile locally in a mobile-friendly market, China, before expanding globally, so Valorant Mobile is released only in China for now. Anna Donlon, Head of Valorant Studios, also talked about it and said that “China has one of the largest and most competitive mobile FPS communities in the world. Since Lightspeed is already a trusted developer in the region, we think it makes sense to start more locally, where their mobile expertise shines, before we finalise our plans to expand to other regions.”
Pre-Registration and Rewards
Riot officially opened pre-registration for VALORANT Mobile in China. Players who sign up and participate in upcoming playtests can earn exclusive player cards by completing in-game missions. Each player can earn up to four cards during the test phase.

Global Release Plans
The Global release date of Valorant Mobile is not yet confirmed, Riot is evaluating performance in China before expanding globally. It stated that “We’re excited to bring VALORANT Mobile to as many players as possible, but we’re starting in China and taking it from there”.
Due to regional restrictions, accessing the game outside of China requires a Chinese phone number, WeChat or QQ account. Hence, global players can’t access the game directly through VPN.
