The BCCI has extended the contracts of head coach Rahul Dravid and other support staff members. Dravid’s contract has ended following the conclusion of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023.
Dravid was appointed India’s head coach in November 2021 for a two-year contract that ended on November 19, 2023, following the conclusion of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. While Dravid coached India to the top of the Test, ODI, and T20I rankings, they were unable to win any ICC trophies, ending as semi-finalists in the 2022 T20 World Cup and runners-up in the 2023 World Test Championship and 2023 ODI World Cup.
VVS Laxman served as the team’s stand-in head coach when Dravid was out of contract. Laxman is India’s head coach in the current five-match T20I series against Australia. Laxman is also the director of the National Cricket Academy (NCA). Dravid will return as India’s head coach for the next visit to South Africa.
Rahul Dravid remarked of his contract extension, “The last two years with Team India have been thoroughly memorable.” We have experienced the highs and lows together, and the group’s support and companionship have been great throughout this journey. I am truly proud of the culture we have established in the locker room. It is a resilient culture, whether in times of success or hardship. Our team’s talents and talent are outstanding, and we’ve underlined the importance of following the appropriate procedure and keeping to our preparations, which has had a direct influence on the overall result.”
