SRH vs CSK: Hayden questioned Jadeja’s Game in IPL 2024
2 min readFollowing his innings against SRH, former Australia opener Matthew Hayden questioned CSK all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja’s flow in the Indian Premier League for the 2024 season. At the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, Chennai reached 165 for 5 in the first innings thanks to a 23-ball 31 from Jadeja. This season, Jadeja has struck out 140 while scoring 84 runs in just three innings. In the meanwhile, the reigning champions have won two and lost one IPL 2024 match.
Speaking to Star Sports, Hayden stated that as Jadeja lacks that flow in the IPL 2024, CSK might have chosen to put England all-rounder Moeen Ali up the order. In Hyderabad, Jadeja batted at number five, ahead of players like Daryl Mitchell, MS Dhoni, and Moeen.
Once more, Dube excelled in the centre. A few huge sixes. Would have like to have Gaikwad or Ravindra finish it, but that was not the case. In a strategic sense, I also believed that Moeen Ali might have been called up to the order. Jadeja’s general flow is lacking, and he hasn’t been quite there. I felt there was a chance to play Moeen Ali in a place like this, where you have to have that flow and rhythm,” Hayden remarked.

Dube was outstanding in the centre once more. A couple massive sixes. Thought Gaikwad or Ravindra could have finished it, but that didn’t work out. I also thought that Moeen Ali could have been called up to the order strategically. Jadeja hasn’t been quite there, and his overall flow is poor. In a setting like this, when you need to have that flow and rhythm, I thought there was an opportunity to play Moeen Ali,” Hayden said.
Ajinkya Rahane and Shivam Dube steadied things and hauled the visitors back in the game with a 65-run partnership when CSK was down 54 for 2. During the IPL 2024, Dube once again crushed spin with a 45-run innings off 24 balls that included two boundaries and four sixes.
While Mitchell scored 13 runs off 11 balls and stayed undefeated at 31 off 23 balls, T Natarajan removed Mitchell in the last over. When Dhoni came out to bat in the last over, the Hyderabad fans became even louder. However, CSK concluded the first innings with 165 for 5, as the five-time IPL winner could only manage one run off of two balls.
