Suryakumar Yadav’s game-winning innings against the USA praised by Rohit Sharma
3 min readSuryakumar Yadav shown a great deal of maturity in the challenging chase against the USA on Wednesday at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York, and captain Rohit Sharma showered him with accolades for it. When things got tight for India at one point, Surya who is renowned for his 360-degree batting exhibited controlled aggressiveness, but the ICC #1 player displayed another aspect of his flashy style of play.
India was chasing the target of 111 runs when they lost their opening duo of Rohit (3) and Virat Kohli (0) early on, putting them at a disadvantage. The withdrawal of the very effective Rishabh Pant on October 18 gave the Indian supporters some anxiety, but Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube saved them from a precarious situation. To get India across the finish line, the pair put up an undefeated 72-run stand. Surya produced an undefeated fifty runs in 49 deliveries, with two sixes and just as many fours. Despite being lethargic initially, Dube kept his ground and finished with 31 off 35 balls without being removed.

The daring opener, who was removed early in the chase, acknowledged that the squad was aware that chasing the modest mark would not have been simple and gave credit to Surya and Dube for securing India’s third victory.
“It would not be easy. We deserve praise for maintaining our composure and securing that collaboration. Praise be to Surya and Dube for their maturity and perseverance,” he continued.
In the meantime, Saurabh Netravalkar, a former Mumbai player, got rid of Rohit and Kohli cheaply during the chase. A few former Mumbai players are currently playing for the USA squad in the T20 World Cup after Rohit was impressed by their development.
“I’m glad to see them making progress; many of these men have played cricket together. They are all hardworking individuals; I saw them last year in MLC too,” he said.
A Glimpse of Game
Before, Rohit had won the toss and chosen to field first. His bowlers did not let him down, limiting the USA to 110/8 in 20 overs. The top bowler was Arshdeep Singh, who achieved his highest T20I stats of 4/9.
“We knew it was tough to get runs, so bowlers had to take the initiative. “Every bowler performed exceptionally well, especially Arshdeep,” the Indian captain said, complimenting the bowling unit.
India’s victory makes them the first team from Group A to advance to the Super 8, and Rohit stated that the team’s confidence for the upcoming round has grown as a result of their three victories.
It’s a huge relief since it wasn’t simple to play cricket here. In all three games, we had to play through to the very finish. These victories will give me a lot of confidence,” he continued.
