India vs Afghanistan : India’s T20I team is back with Rohit and Kohli for the Afghanistan series.
India vs Afghanistan : The three-match T20 International series between India and Afghanistan, which begins on January 11, has a team named by the Board of Control For Cricket in India (BCCI) on Sunday. Rohit Sharma is heading the team as he makes his comeback along with Virat Kohli. For the first time since India’s semi-final defeat from the T20 World Cup 2022 against England, the senior tandem will play in T20I.
In order to focus on Test cricket and ODIs in the run-up to the World Test Championship final and the ODI World Cup in 2023, Rohit and Kohli have not played T20Is since India’s semi-final loss to England in the T20 World Cup in November 2022. Both players are now back in India’s plans for the forthcoming T20 World Cup in the West Indies and the USA thanks to their selection, which came after Ajit Agarkar, the chairman of selectors for India, travelled to South Africa for the New Year’s Test in Cape Town.
Although Rohit’s prospects of captaining India in the Twenty20 World Cup have significantly increased, Hardik’s hopes of heading the team in June are severely damaged by the news. But for the IPL2024 , he has taken Rohit Sharma’s spot as the team’s captain.
For the Afghanistan series, all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj, and bowler Jasprit Bumrah have been rested.
“Decisions on Rohit and Virat can’t solely be taken by the selection committee. There is a lot at stake, broadcasters, sponsors and you can’t pick one and drop the other. Ajit and his team needed to maintain a status quo,” a former India selector told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

In Hardik’s absence, all-rounder Shivam Dube was added to the team, although leggie Yuzvendra Chahal was once again left out. Washington Sundar and Axar Patel are the team’s spin all-arounders, while Ravi Bishnoi and Kuldeep Yadav have been included as spinners. When Bumrah and Siraj are rested, Arshdeep Singh, Avesh Khan, and Mukesh Kumar will split duties in the pace department.
