India vs Bangladesh, U19 World Cup 2024 :

India, the reigning champions and most successful team in Under-19 World Cup history, will try to add another trophy to their collection when they play Bangladesh in the tournament’s opening match on Saturday in Bloemfontein, South Africa. The new team is captained by Uday Saharan. Tagged in Group A, the five-time champions will play their opening match at the Manguang Oval against the Asian opponents before moving on to play Ireland and the USA in their other group matches.

Indian teams have won the U-19 World Cup in 2008, 2012, 2018, and 2022 after taking home their first championship with Mohammad Kaif in 2002. Four groups of as many teams each will compete in the event, which the ICC unexpectedly moved from Sri Lanka to South Africa.

India’s Uday Saharan-led U19 cricket squad takes against Bangladesh in Bloemfontein on Saturday to open their U19 World Cup campaign. The Boys in Blue won their fifth championship in 2022 when the Yash Dhull-led India U19 team defeated England by four wickets in the West Indies. After two years, Uday Saharan, now 19 years old, rejoins the team as captain after serving as a reserve player in that tournament.

India, Bangladesh, the United States, and Ireland are all in Group A. When the competition was last contested in South Africa in 2020, India and Bangladesh faced off in the U19 World Cup final. Yashasvi Jaiswal made 88 runs in the match, but Parvez Hossain Emon (47), and Akbar Ali (43*) eclipsed his effort as Bangladesh overcame 170 in a rain-shortened game to win their first title.

Afghanistan was also playing in a tri-nation series in South Africa when the India U19 team was in action. South Africa and India advanced to the competition final, where they shared the honours before the weather forced an end to it.

Prior to the tri-series, India had lost the U19 Asia Cup in Dubai to eventual champions Bangladesh in the semi-finals, with efforts from Musheer Khan and Murugan Abhishek ending in defeat.
