Mitchell Starc, an Australian pacer, sold for the highest price ever at the IPL Auction when the Kolkata Knight Riders paid Rs. 24.75 crore for his services.
Pat Cummins, the captain of the World Cup winning team, received the second-best offer, joining Sunrisers Hyderabad for Rs. 20.50 crore. Before Royal Challengers Bangalore and SRH stepped in with their separate bids, archrivals Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians engaged in a battle for Cummins.
Travis Head, Cummins’ countryman and the player of the match in the 2023 World Cup final, was also acquired by SRH for 6.80 crore. Wanindu Hasaranga, an all-rounder from Sri Lanka, was sensationally acquired by the team for his basic fee of 1.50 crore. Harshal Patel joined the Punjab Kings on Wednesday for a reported 11.75 crore rupees, marking the largest price ever made for an Indian athlete.

The highest priced player in the IPL Auction 2024 was Mitchell Starc, an Australian speedster. At a whooping INR 24.75 crore, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) purchased him, shattering the previous record of INR 22.5 crore established by Yuvraj Singh in 2015. With the ability to swing the ball at high speeds and produce deadly yorkers, Starc is among the world’s top fast bowlers. In his 27 IPL games, he has claimed 34 wickets at an economy of 7.17 and an average of 20.38. He last competed for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the 2015 Indian Premier League.
With Pat Cummins, Lockie Ferguson, and Prasidh Krishna already in the mix, Starc will give the KKR bowling attack a lot more punch and expertise. Along with his fellow countryman Cummins, who was the most priced player in the IPL Auction 2020, Starc will also make a deadly pace tandem. The addition of Starc will increase KKR’s prospects of winning a third IPL championship in 2024.

For INR 20.50 crore, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) acquired Pat Cummins, the most expensive player in the IPL Auction 2020. All-around versatile player Cummins is ranked #1 in the world for Test bowling. With an average of 29.92 and an economy of 8.29, he has taken 38 wickets in 30 IPL games. At a 146.35 strike rate, he also scored 281 runs. Throughout the previous two seasons, he was a key wicket-taker and batsman for the Kolkata Knight Riders. To create a formidable bowling unit for SRH, Cummins will team up with Rashid Khan, T Natarajan, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

Chennai Super Kings made a major purchase of the veteran all-rounder for a staggering Rs 14 crore, making him one of the most expensive New Zealand players ever purchased at an Indian Premier League auction. Daryl Mitchell, who played 2 matches for Rajasthan Royals in his debut IPL season in 2022, went unsold in the IPL 2023 mini-auction. The New Zealand star was expected to stir up a bidding war after his heroics in the World Cup and the bidding process lived up to expectations.

In the 2024 Indian Premier League, Harshal Patel, a medium-pacer who had an incredible season in 2023, was the third most expensive player. At INR 11.75 crore, he became the most expensive uncapped player in IPL history when he was acquired by Punjab Kings (PBKS). With 32 wickets at an average of 15.28 and an economy of 9.17 across 15 matches, Patel won the purple cap in 2023. At a 145 strike rate, he also scored 116 runs. In 2023, he was a standout player and match-winner for RCB while he was a player. With players like Mohammed Shami, Jhye Richardson, and Ravi Bishnoi in the bowling attack, Patel will bolster PBKS’s offensive line.

Alzarri Joseph, a bowler for the West Indies, has received a massive offer from Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Joseph left Gujarat Titans for RCB for a total of Rs 11.50 crore, including a base price of Rs 1 crore. Delhi Capitals (DC) made their presence known at the auction after Chennai Super Kings (CSK) opened the bidding for Joseph at a base price of Rs 1 crore. Super Kings withdrew their offer of Rs 2.80 crore. The Capitals, who missed out on Rs 6.60 crore, were challenged by the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the auction. The RCB Super Giants, captained by Faf du Plessis, were in a competition with Challengers to get this fast bowler. Also, he became the first player to be purchased by RCB during the bidding process. They had previously placed an offer for Pat Cummins, an Australian fast bowler, but Sunrisers Hyderabad acquired him for an incredible Rs 20.50 crore.
